I use my phone for taking pictures daily. It’s always in my pocket, ready for those moments that just begs to be photographed. I have a big girl camera, but it usually sits inside the camera bag until some special occasion calls for it. But thanks to Alison of Writing, Wishing and Greta of GFunkified, I’ll be taking out my DSLR at least once a week, for the rest of the year! Their Through the Lens photography project is just what I need to motivate me to put my cameraphone down!
This week’s prompt is CORNER. I struggled all week to think of something to photograph. I went around the house looking through the camera lens, but nothing interesting came to me – until last night.
Almost every night, my Darling Husband takes the time to read a book to my girls. Ding! I can use this. I snapped away and decided to stretch the prompt a bit.
Reading is the cornerstone of early academic success. I know this as a former schoolteacher and as experienced with my own kids. My 4th grader is at high school reading level (but I limit her reading to appropriate reading topics, of course.) And my preK girl is reading at a 1st grade reading level. (The toddler, well he loves books and pretends to read.) There is usually a correlation between high reading level and high academic grades in all subjects. Think about it, the better you read, the less you have to work to understand what the textbook is trying to tell you. As a good reader, you can concentrate on content instead of on the task of reading!
I give credit to my husband for helping my kids advance in reading. He always reads to them. Our house is full of books. One might even say that my DH is the cornerstone of my kids’ reading success.
All photos taken with Canon EOS Rebel T1i, on ISO400, flash on, with lowlight directly above the subjects. Collage was created and edited on PicMonkey.com. I think next time, I should turn on more lights. Too much shadow going on, right?
