Musings :: Fireworks for the New Year 2015
In the Philippines, the biggest fireworks extravaganza happens on New Year’s Day!
At 11:59 pm of New Year’s Eve, everyone – young and old alike – are awake, waiting to bang the pots, pumped to jump up and down screaming, and matches ready to light the wicks on every firecracker you can possibly imagine (legal and illegal ones).
When midnight rolls around, all Filipinos cause such a ruckus that I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of Asia can hear our island exploding with joy.
So, to ring in the New Year, I’m sharing with you a fireworks show – music and lights!!!
And it’s not one of those fake ones made on the computer either. This one’s real, on the ground, fire hazard, people cheering, and smoke in your eyes real!
It’s 15 minutes long, but it’s totally worth it. So I suggest you grab a cup of coffee, maybe some popcorn or chips, and sit back. Enjoy the show!
However, as you can imagine, since every person has access to firecrackers, there would be ACCIDENTS. So, even though I grew up with it, doesn’t mean I encourage it now. I hope that all my fellow Filipinos stay safe this new year!
If you’re curious, click on this link to see images of what firecrackers can really do to a person. But only if you’ve got the stomach to see them…
